Hill fort

Bala Quila (Alwar Fort) — a self drive trip from Alwar

The fort above the city — go early for cool air and the view over Alwar.

Bala Quila (Alwar Fort)

At a glance

Bala Quila is the hill fort that watches over Alwar from an Aravalli ridge. Its walls and bastions date back to the 16th century and run along the hilltop, with sweeping views of the city, the Sagar tank and the hills beyond.

The road up winds through the forested Bala Quila area, which forms part of the Sariska buffer zone. A forest check-post controls entry and the timings are set by the forest department, so confirm them locally before you go.
